Did you know. . . .
Originally, all Tyrone gatherings & social activities were run out of the red brickhall across from the churchwhich was called “The Temperance Hall” (At that time, alcohol could not be sold at public buildings in Clarington and many other parts of Canada). The park was in the current location on 4 acres of land donated by Benjamin Gardner who lived next door in the white house behind the church. At that time the playground was much more modest having only a slide, teeter-totter, & sand box.
Throughout the years, the hall has been run by families & friends pulling together to keep a tightly knit community
In the early 70s, the very committed, energetic & hard working hall board decided to build a new hall, big enough to suit the growing needs of the community. Thanks to generous donations from Ewart McLaughlin, RS McLaughlin, & a
Wintario grant, construction began. The board & community worked endlessly for years raising funds to see their project through. During this time, The board rallied and were successful in changing the liquor laws in Clarington. Now liquor could be sold at their functions.
The hall board also joined forces with the Tryone Athletic Assoc & more money was raised to buy more land to the north allowing the addition our excellent ball diamonds & soccer pitches. It was then that plans for the walkway entering from the new court on the east side were formulated.
In 1976 the Tyrone Community Centre, as it stands today, was completed!.

April 13th, 20101 year danciversary!
April 5th, 2010It was one year April 3 2009 that our first BRAVE GUESTS waltzed into the Tyrone Community Centre. It was quite easy to do a head count that evening. There were four. F-O-U-R! Let’s just say we had quite a few sandwiches left over!!!
For quite a few scary months we persevered, and are we EVER glad we did! Our April 3 dance we hosted a very spirited 90+ guests, all twisting, twirling, smiling, laughing, eating, drinking and making merry! What a Celebration!
Rob certainly lived up to his name (One Of A Kind) with some great tunes, reading the crowd like a good book, and keeping us on the floor the whole night!
Sharon surprised us once again with a gorgeous Easter cake and some fresh veggies and we also enjoyed some more of Cookie Man Ralph’s sweets! THANk YOU BOTH!
Also we want to thank Joan, Norma, Carole (with an E!), David, Maggie, John, Dave S, and all our amazing guests old and new who stacked a chair or rolled a table to help us weary organizers to close up!!!
oh, and one more thing. To those of you who believed in us, encouraged us to keep going, who kept spreading the word, and coming out to dance, Here’s a BIG HUG!! Keep on keepin’ on!!
